Lost Dog

dalmationOne day my best friend calls, her dalmation, Blackjack,  has disappeared out of her fenced in yard. There are many things you can do to recover a lost dog that either ran away or worse, was stolen. First, look in every little nook and cranny of your house, you dog may have gotten spooked and is hiding, especially if you have a smaller dog. Second, call out to your pet, and maybe shake some food.  Thirdly, roam around the neighborhood dropping off your phone number and pet’s information. Or make a quick flyer and place them around town.  Fourth, display an article your dog is familiar with outside so they can “smell home”. Fifth, never be afraid to call vet clinics, police, lost and found ads and animal control. Lastly, go to the animal shelters and look at the animals yourself – because your description and someone else’s of the same animal may differ.

We searched high and low for Blackjack but sadly never got to bring him back home. We found him at a distant neighbors house, but when confronted, they said they’ve owned the dog for years.  To prevent losing your dog for good from theft, get an identification tag. Pet Skin Doctor highly recommends taking your dog to a vet that provides services such as placing a microchip or a tattoo on the leg with his permanent license number.
